Birth Support Services
As Independant Birth Doulas, our services include pre-birth visits and complete birth support. Our visits are tailored to meet your needs and may include discussion on topics such as breathing techniques, well-pregnancy, birthing wishes, the role of your support persons, breastfeeding, your hopes and fears about birth, and the changes that this new baby will bring to your lives. We are there not only to support the mother and her desires, but also to enhance the relationship that the birthing mother has with her partner and to educate partners on ways to assist Mom. Regardless of how your birth unfolds, what is important is that the Mother feel supported, nurtured, and lovingly cared for. Below is a list of basic services provided in a standard agreement:*
Initial phone interview with Mom and Partner to ask questions and determine if you feel that we comfortably fit with your family
Prenatal visits prior to birth, depending on the doula package you select (ask about childbirth classes and bellycasting)
Assistance in drafting your "Birth Wishes" and preparing for a gentle birth
Available for phone support and consultation, including post-birth
On call for your birth from your 36th week, joining you at home during labor
Continuous personal support during birthing and until 1-3 hours following birth
Birth and nutritional counseling, to enhance your birthing preparations
Access to numerous birth support props and techniques
Maintain a calm, peaceful and supportive birthing environment
Encourage creative involvement and intimacy between parents
At least 1 postpartum visit to reflect on the birth and discuss your questions
Follow-up by phone or e-mail over the first 3-6 months
Assist in creating a special and private space for Parents and Baby to bond
Photography during pregnancy, labor, and birth, as desired
Help keep parents informed and educated of your choices at all times
Breastfeeding education and allowing Baby to find her own way to the breast
Provide important resources for related professional support
*Please note that some of our services are beyond the DONA birth doula scope of practice, therefore if you wish for us to also use a rebozo or hypnosis to help you turn a breech baby, or if you wish for us to perform more clinical care including vaginal exams (which are best kept to a minimum), you must hire us as a Monitrice.
